Day 4: Disney Hollywood Studios and The National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe
by Olivia
Last day, last day, what to say about the last day. The first thing we did was go to Disney's Hollywood Studios, formerly known as MGM. Our first stop was to see the wonder of just a twenty-minute wait for the Tower of Terror, a sight that we will never see again. It is so strange that the prep for the drop of the Tower of Terror is more terrifying than the actual drop. I've been on it now four times and it still gets my heart pounding. The drop was amazing, and a large group of choir girls were on the ride at the same time so we dubbed ourselves the Girls in Green for the picture. Then we went to go see the Beauty and the Beast show that I always see when I go into that park and this time it was better than ever.
It was Star Wars weekend at the park so we decided to go over to ride Star Tours, which is a space flight simulation ride. An ironic twist occurred considering that we were hunting princesses in the Magic Kingdom yesterday: while waiting in line for the ride, we saw Princess Leia. We were a little sad after we finished the ride because she was already gone. Amanda got a lightsaber. It's blue, and no one else is able to use it but her. She is literally the only person in the group who can flick her wrist properly to get the blade to come out, which seems appropriate since it's her lightsaber. The sight of Princess Leia rekindled our desire for other character signatures, so off we went and who did we find but the Power Rangers. Yes, readers, in the space of twenty-four hours we went from Disney princesses to Power Rangers. The red, blue, yellow, green, and pink Rangers were there, but we only got signatures from the red and the pink rangers before they drove off. The people who play the Power Rangers, by the way, must have taken pilates or "thighs of steel" classes and spent time working for the circus. They managed to pull off these impressive lunges and just hold themselves there for pictures. I must say, I have a new respect for them.
We ate lunch after that and had the best dessert under the sun . However, it did come with a downside. We went to ride the Rockin Rollercoaster and we were in the fast pass lane. We were all terrified that we would be seeing that dessert again after going 60 miles an hour. We didn't though, so yay. After that it was very close to our time to go, so we just piddled around the gift shops before we had to leave.
The next phase of the day was the seniors' final Girls Choir performance ever. It was an evening mass in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe. It was one of the most beautiful modern churches I have ever seen. I shed a tear in my last song. It was a really nice performance.
We went back to the hotel, where we were once again denied time in the pool due to a hotel guest in a different party sustaining an injury. Silly tourists. We did skit night, where we spontaneously improvised the highlights of the week and gave everyone awards for things that made them special. Everyone seemed to like it. I know I did, as much as I enjoyed the day and the entire tour.
